MOTIVATION

Motivation is the internal process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behavior. It can fluctuate based on readiness to change and perceived obstacles.
Common patterns of motivation include
• Precontemplation: Not yet recognizing the need for change • Contemplation: Weighing pros and cons and feeling ambivalent • Preparation: Planning actionable steps toward change • Action: Actively modifying behaviors to reach goals • Maintenance: Sustaining changes and preventing relapse
