A panic attack is a sudden and intense surge of fear or anxiety, usually accompanied by physical symptoms such as: • Rapid heartbeat or chest pain • Shortness of breath or a choking sensation • Dizziness or lightheadedness • Sweating, shaking, or hot flashes • Nausea or stomach discomfort • Numbness or tingling • Feeling detached from reality (derealization) or from yourself (depersonalization) • A fear of losing control or dying
